Trips Right Victor · C Right

Trips Right Victor: spread the defense and find someone open. C and RB offer opposite-side checkdowns beyond the line of scrimmage. A short completion counts; the illustrated throw is an example, not a required first read.

Who does what

  • QBQBFind an open teammate and a clear throwing lane. The short checkdown is a successful choice; no receiver is chosen before the snap.
  • CCenterFinish the snap, then find open space to the right, beyond the line of scrimmage and in the quarterback’s view. Stay out of the middle throwing lane.
  • XWRFrom the inside Trips position, cross toward the opposite side at the deeper illustrated level. Keep space from Z.
  • YWRVictor changes your out route to a go. Stretch the defense in your lane.
  • ZWRRun the outside slant across the field. Keep a different depth from X and watch for each other.
  • RBRBStart behind the quarterback. Release left, opposite C, and get beyond the line of scrimmage where the quarterback can see you.

How to teach Trips Right Victor · C Right

By FlagPlays · Updated . Practical starting points for volunteer coaches. Check your competition’s rules before using a play.

Left and right refer to the diagram. Route depths are illustrations; adjust them to your field and players. Check eligibility, running and rush rules.

When to try it
Teach one formation and repeat it. Practice the short outlet as deliberately as the downfield routes; change only Y’s route for the Victor audible. The audible word can be anything your team remembers.
Quarterback's plan
Find an open teammate and a clear throwing lane. The short checkdown is a successful choice; no receiver is chosen before the snap.
Teaching cue
Get into open space where the quarterback can see you. Checkdowns are part of the offense, not a failed deep pass.
Common mistake
Forcing a deep throw, hiding the outlet beside or behind the quarterback, or assuming a checkdown is always open. Adjust route depths to your players and avoid collisions.
